WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
Jade Phoenix is a personal exercise of reforming a negative scent memory into something positive. The opening is full of mint and wintergreen which I had a strong negative opinion about. This is the smell of the medicinal “green oil” I grew up using…. think “menthol body rubs and pain relieving oils.”
Since my childhood every time I smell it, I would recall memories of tummy aches, muscle pains and “old people.” I was mind-blown to learn that people out of my culture thought the scent of our green oil was pretty. This is when I decided I wanted to paint a new picture. This “green oil” that we used is reliable and healing. Citrus, rose, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, resins were added because they are all reliable materials in perfumery and herbalism. I added airiness to this perfume to mimic the phoenix rising after being reborn. This project helped me a lot. I love the scent I created and now when I smell wintergreen and menthol I think of reliability and healing.
